Storing and Displaying Children’s Art

What on earth do you do with the 6194 pieces of art work that your child creates? And that’s just this week! As Pebble becomes a more enthusiastic artist each and every day, I find myself struggling with teetering piles of art work that I just can’t bear to part with. Drawings, paintings, collage, construction…. never ending piles. I have been meaning to research a solution, and have finally been pushed to breaking point. Something must be done!

Following some hard core research (otherwise known as Pinning) I am leaning towards a combination of a storage box for artwork and photos of art work (especially constructions, which are harder to store), and a hanging display. It has to be easy to maintain…. the ageing photos on my shelves are testament to how often I get around to changing things in frames. I also quite like the idea of keepsakes in the form of stitched art, or jewellery made from children’s art.

Here are some of the ideas that I liked best (click on the image to visit the original source).

  1. It is so hard. We use a combination. We have a huge blanket box that we keep everything in for both kids in folders with the year on the front and we get the kids to decorate each folder and we also have picture frames (approximately 20) on one wall going down our stairs and we interchange the drawings every 2-3 months.

  2. Yes it is a BIG problem! Especially when you have double trouble… Now that the girls are a bit older and I can negotiate, I generally ask them if they want to keep it and if its REALLY special to them. If it is, it goes in my storage box i have for such treasures, if not, we keep it around for a week or two and then it goes into recycling. Fortunately I have some parts of my house, as you know Kylie, that aren’t renovated yet and so I’m happy to stick pictures and things up on the walls. The girls seem happy with this arrangement. and of course, I keep all the bits that i think are just adorable too.

I think i may need to get a bigger storage box soon though LOL.
