Lullaby App for Little Ones

Lullaby for Babies

We have used a little musical night light to help Pebble drift off to sleep for most of her life. She went through a stage of not using it, but recently she’s being going through a ‘baby’ phase and has wanted it back again. Sleep aids are fine… except for when you’re away from home. Or the batteries go flat.

While having dinner at a friends house one night I felt myself going a little cuckoo-crazy when faced with getting this super tired toddler to sleep with a rowdy crowd just a room away. Being the tech-geek that I am, I found this neat little app on my phone, and in just a few minutes we went from losing to snoozing. It helped to distract Pebble from the noise in the other room, and the quiet, calm music seemed to help her relax.

Lullaby for Babies (Android) is free and comes with three different music choices, as well as two backgrounds. You can set it to run for 10, 20 or 30 minutes before it automatically stops playing. The best bit? You can still use all the other features of your phone while you’re stuck lying on a hard floor and reaching awkwardly across the fold out toddler bed to pat the kiddo to sleep. It makes that 10, 20 or 30 minutes go by a little easier when you have Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to keep you company. Or is that just me?

There is also Lullaby for Babies 2, but I prefer to music on the first version.

What tricks do you use to get your kids to sleep?

Last weekend I went to Sydney to attend Nuffnang Blogopolis (otherwise known as #NNB2012). If you’re a blogger right now you probably know that this means I went to a blogging conference. I had been telling non-bloggers about this conference for months in the lead up to it and they all gave me the strangest looks when I said where I was going and why. What’s a blog, anyway?

Here are just a few of the things that I felt grateful for while I was at #NNB2012:

  • my husband and MIL giving all their love to Pebble while I was away.
  • sharing time and space with people who GET IT
  • sharing accommodation with three amazeballs bloggers (Melissa, Lauren and Nat)
  • meeting many of my blogging idols, blogging friends and finding many new friends
  • my luggage arriving in Sydney with me (not so much on the way home, apparently)
  • my credit card (cha-ching!)
  • picking the brains of Christie from Childhood 101 and Nicole from Planning with Kids
  • cupcakes
  • Nat teaching me how to use tilt-shift in Instagram properly (where have I been!?)
  • pushing myself completely out of my comfort zone and talk, talk, talking to all the people I had hoped to meet and many more
  • more cupcakes
  • 7-11 (I forgot to pack my toothbrush!)
  • having the guts to take the mic and ask a question of the “Opportunities Gained Through Blogging” panel featuring Christie from Childhood 101, Hayley from Fashion Hayley, Nikki from Styling You and Larry from the AU Review.
  • having my vlog cherry popped by Grace.
  • squeezing in a super quick, but ultra decadent breakfast with my uni friend Paula in The Rocks (hello Guylian cafe!!).

My one regret? Not taking more photos!

I hope I get the chance to go to another blogging conference again one day, but I have a feeling that I won’t be going to one for quite a while.

Have you stepped out of your comfort zone lately?

Grateful: Husbands and Bloggers

I’m almost too nervous to write this post. I am going to Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 in Sydney TODAY. All things going well I am on a plane while this post is going live. I am super excited, and super nervous, and very, very grateful.

I’m grateful for:

  • my loving husband for supporting me in this crazy blogging endeavour. Thank you babe, I love you x
  • the internets for giving me blogging as a creative outlet
  • Nuffnang for bringing all of these amazing bloggers into one space
  • Melissa, Natalie and Lauren for being my roomies in Sydney.

I’m going to miss my family like crazy, I am scared to be leaving behind my little girl for so long. BUT I’m going to take this opportunity with both hands and I’m gonna knock it outta the park.

Come on Sydney, LET’S DO THIS!

The Hat

I needed to draw a winner for the Kikki K comp over the weekend, and without even thinking I went straight for The Hat. I’ve used it in the classroom loads of times (the kids love watching the names shuffle then listening to the drum roll) and a few times for blogging.

The Hat is super awesome because you can:

  • import names from a txt file
  • save multiple lists
  • pick individuals or pairs
  • print your results
  • choose special effects (flashing lights, sounds, shaking windows)
  • download it FREE!

Don’t know what to make for dinner? Use The Hat!
Not sure where to go for your holiday? Use The Hat!
Kids fighting over who’s turn it is to play with the iPad? Use The Hat!

How would you use The Hat?
