Nice to meet you

Octavia and Vicky - Family Portrait

Hi there! I’m Kylie – a teacher and mum who loves playing and cooking with my kids. I live with my husband and two children in the Adelaide hills, South Australia, where we enjoy regular visits from possums, koalas and even have the odd kangaroo in the backyard. I teach five year old children in their first year of school, which is a great privilege and a lot of fun. Octavia and Vicky is my own little creative outlet, and a fun space where I share activities for kids, real parenting stories and yummy things to cook.

Meet ‘Hubby’

Meet Hubby

My husband’s name is Paul, but here on the blog you’ll know him mostly as ‘Hubby’. We fell in love on a blind date back in 2005. How cute is that? Our best friends set us up and we went out for a drink that turned into dinner, that turned into dancing, that ended with the sweetest kiss goodnight that ever was.

Meet ‘Pebble’

Pebble About Me 2014

‘Pebble’ is four years old. She doesn’t stop talking or singing or dancing or moving all day long. She loves her baby brother, creating imaginary worlds and asking questions about the existence of the universe.

Meet ‘Rocky’

Rocky January 2014

‘Rocky’ is one year old. He is a full on bundle of energy but a relaxed dude at heart. He loves climbing, opening and closing doors, spinning wheels, throwing balls and laughing at slap stick.

I choose to use pseudonyms for my children.

Who are Octavia and Vicky?

I named my blog Octavia and Vicky after a story I wrote when I was five years old, about a spider named Octavia and her young friend, Vicky. You can read the story here.

I thought you might like to read a few of my favourite posts….

  1. Greetings Kylie. I enjoy your blog a lot and wanted to let you know that I’ve nominated your blog for the Liebster Blog award. Post it on your blog or not. Enjoy. Check it out at Cheers,

  2. I love that you named this blog after characters that you created when you were five!
Being a mum AND a primary school teacher – those are two very big jobs indeed!

  3. I never realised you lived in Adelaide (I probably did and forgot!).
I was just talking with a friend earlier this week about how i have never been to Adelaide and/or Perth or Darwin and how I’d love to visit them all and explore our country :)

  4. Why don’t you bring your original story of Octavia and Vicky to the present. Pebbles would probably love growing up with a book of a story her mum wrote, and Ian sure her many outings and family would treasure it. Why not?

  5. Hi
